Archiving/Extracting/Downloading Files/Directories

The File Manager allows you to -

  • archive files/directories as well as extract files/directories (from archives) on your website, and

  • download selected files/directories (as archives) from your website to your local computer.

These actions are explained below:

Archiving Files/Directories

  1. Open the File Manager interface.1

  2. Click Web/web in the list of files/directories to open the web directory.

  3. Select the files/directories which you wish to be archived and click Zip, in the menu above the list of files/directories.

  4. You may either store the archive on your website itself or have it emailed to you:

    • If you wish to have the archived file saved on the hosting server, select the check box adjacent Save the zip file on the FTP server as and provide a name for the archive in the text box next to it. The archive will be saved in the parent directory of the files/directories selected.

    • You may also have the archive mailed to a specified email address by selecting the check box adjacent Email the zip file in attachment to and providing an email address in the text box next to it. If you wish to have a message sent to the recipient, the same can be provided in the text box next to Some additional comments to add in the email.

  5. Click to initiate the archival process.

Extracting Files/Directories from Archives

  1. Open the File Manager interface.2

  2. Click Web/web in the list of files/directories to open the web directory.

  3. Select one or more archives which you wish to be extract and click Unzip, in the menu above the list of files/directories.

  4. You may either choose to extract all the archives in a single directory or extract each archive in a separate directory, within your website:

    • Extracting individual archives in different destination directories

      1. Click next to Target directory to locate the destination directory.

      2. Double-click the directory in which the archive need to be extracted and click Choose.

    • Extracting all archives to a single destination directory

      1. Click next to Set all targetdirectories to locate the destination directory.

      2. Double-click the directory in which the archives need to be extracted and click Choose.

  5. Click to initiate the process.

Downloading Files/Directories

  1. Open the File Manager interface.3

  2. Click Web/web in the list of files/directories to open the web directory.

  3. Select the files/directories that you wish to download to your local computer and click Download, in the menu above the list of files/directories.

  4. The File Manager compresses the selected files/directories into an archive and prompts you to save the file on your local computer.
